McLuhan, when he was at Cambridge as an
undergraduate in the late ’30s, he was very
interested in the analysis of the popular culture
and environment.
There was a book published, when he was at
Cambridge, by a very famous professor named F.R.
Leavis, whom McLuhan was a great follower of in
the ’30s and ’40s, and the book was called Culture
and Environment and Leavis was one of these new
critics who were very concerned about analyzing
literature and teaching students how to read
literature properly, and in this book he said that
the teachers of literature, critics and so on,
